The advent calendar tradition dates back to 1851 in Protestant parts of Germany. The first Advent calendar with little doors was printed in the early 1900s and continues to this day.

This German advent calendar with glitter accents depicts the Brandenburg Gate one of the most famous landmarks in Berlin, Germany at Christmas. Every year at Christmas a huge fir tree is placed in front of the Brandenburg Gate, which is almost as large as the monument itself.

The detailed picture has 24 small doors to open. Behind each door is a small picture.

The tradition is to open a window every day from December 1st to December 24th.
